My greatest accomplishment

Since I have recently re-connected with people I have not communicated with for many years, it has caused me to reflect on what I have done with my life. I have not done any amazing thing. I am not famous or beautiful or awarded for anything. I realize that photographs can be a little bit misleading because we usually only show pictures where everyone looks their best, or reasonably so. This is my husband and my children, taken 2 years ago. I know everyone tends to be partial to their own loved ones. I have beautiful children, inside and out. I did my very best to raise them to be intelligent, independent, and compassionate. They have all become people anyone would be happy to call a friend. I'm grateful to call them my friends. I look forward to spending eternity with them.

Ode to hope

I have been married to this man for nearly 40 years. We have had some interesting experiences, some more pleasant than others. He has tended to be the more pessimistic of the two of us over the years. We have spent countless hours discussing our life, analyzing events and decisions. He misses being a firefighter- risking life and limb to save lives and property. It was ego-deflating for him to apply for many jobs when we moved to Utah, for which he was well-qualified, and not be even interviewed. He began to question his worth. The struggles we have faced since moving here to Dayton, OH have been even worse. He has finally admitted that it isn't a matter of "when this changes I'll feel better". He knows he has to make some major alterations to his outlook on life and his evaluation of himself. That is the important first step. It is a hard mountain to climb but at last he is aware of the existence of the mountain. I am holding out hope that he will be happy, not giddy or delirious..... just reasonably content with life and aware of our many blessings. I expect we have several decades left before we're through. I want to enjoy life with him rather than in spite of him with his gloom and doom view of things. I'm hopeful.
