Continuing to seek understanding

It's a rare child that never expresses a desire to be older at some point. They look at growing up with envy expecting a greater freedom and power, with no comprehension of the increased responsibility entailed. Good parents will gradually allow children the freedom to make choices, sometimes allowing them to fully reap the consequences, other times stepping in to help. The ultimate goal is for that child to be able to be fully independent at some point seeking only reassurance and occasional advice from the parents.
God has promised us that we will receive "all that He has" someday. As his children, we often think in terms of the old songs that mention streets in heaven paved with gold. We yearn for the power and wealth God holds but rarely consider the responsibility He has. When we first learn to acknowledge His existence, we turn to Him to seek forgiveness for our weakness and follies, we bow to His wisdom, and learn to accept chastisement. (knowing He loves us and we need to learn) Often in our stages of early spiritual development, He is fairly quick to answer our pleas. But, as a good parent, He gradually steps back so that He takes longer to respond and allows us not only to make our own choices but also to hold accountability in accepting consequences of those choices. When Jesus Christ was experiencing incredible pain on the cross, after dealing with ridicule, physical abuse most humans will never feel, and undeserved hatred, He at one point calls to His Father to ask why He has been forsaken. We don't make it that far before we cry accusingly to our Father in heaven for help in troubles or release from pain. As we mature, we better understand what to ask for. We need to ask for the strength to keep going, to complete the learning and experience we came to this life to gain, not to be excused from the exercises.
The thing I look forward to the least in "gaining all the Father hath" is the opportunity to be hated, not in spite of being good, but because I am good. Persecution is a sample of what that will be like. When we have the responsibilities that come with the power and wealth our Father in heaven has, we will have children who will shake their fists toward us and be angry and resent all that we are doing for them, totally clueless as to why it's good for them. That has to be hard to deal with.
