The house

As promised, I'm doing two blogs to show James's family home in Berlin. At the end of WWII, the city of Berlin was divided. Half was under the control of the Soviet Union and half was divided under the administration of France, Britain, and the USA. For quite awhile there was a large military presence from all of those countries. That required lots of housing. Today, there are a number of homes in what was formerly the American sector (and there may be in other areas, too) that are vacant. The property has been returned to the city of Berlin and they will at some point do something with it. There are also many very upscale houses in the area, some of which are single family, and some more like condos. There are some Germans living in the area but there is a high concentration of Americans near the house provided for James's family. Their house has a common wall with the house next door but you would never know it once you get inside. It is spacious and very well built. The following 3 photos are my attempt to give you an idea what the bathroom on the third floor is like. (The house has 3 1/2 bathrooms. All the full baths are this large.) Here is the shower tub. Then turning slightly to the right, you can see the openable skylight and the wall-hung toilet next to the vanity.

Turning again just a little more, you can see the rest of the vanity with the mirror flanked by cupboards and the wall-hung "heater" which is for drying towels. It also keeps them nice and warm to enjoy after your shower on a cold winter day!

Next to the third floor bathroom is Jarom's room which he so generously gave up for us. It has two single beds, a large dresser and desk with bookshelves along with another large set of bookshelves. Also on this floor is Nicholas's room that has a marvelous wall of cupboards like the one in the picture of Louisa's room as well as a smaller room used as a Lego room. (Sorry I don't have a picture of that one.)
